SERVPRO Participates in Local 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
After the wake of 9/11, it was discovered that 412 emergency first responders tragically lost their lives during the crisis, including many firefighters, police officers, and paramedics. To remember the 343 fallen firefighters who gave their lives to save others, SERVPRO has gathered with our local community to complete the annual Stair Climb. The Stair Climb is an event where participants climb 110 stories, matching the same amount in the World Trade Center, to honor the emergency first responders who gave their lives.
“Beginning at approximately 8:47 this morning, following a moment of silence and a single bell toll, local first responders will begin their climb up the stairs…” One of the many representatives on the panel spoke. “This morning, we have 217 climbers that will be making that climb.”
Each climber is paired with a name tag, each representing “the 343 first responders that were lost eighteen years ago, on September 11, 2001.” The climbers face a day of “climbing the equivalent of 110 stories,” to remember the struggle that the fallen American heroes went through that day so many years ago. The stair climb is not a race, and it is not timed. The only goal of the day is to get to the top.
You may find yourself wondering why a Cleanup and Restoration company, like SERVPRO, would get involved in such a heavy-spirited community event. Here at SERVPRO, we support our heroes and remember their sacrifices. Every year, “we are always touched to see so many first responders at the event.” We believe in helping people when they need us, an example set by those first responders eighteen years ago. We look up to and respect the individuals who gave their lives trying to save others.
“Join the climb and honor the heroes we lost.” Our SERVPRO team believes that it is an honor to remember those who have given their lives trying to secure the safety of our nation. We gladly take part year after year. “May we never forget all of the lives lost.”
